What Is Awana?
Awana comes from 2 Timothy 2:15 - "Approved workmen are not ashamed." Awana is
our Wednesday night education program designed for children ages three years
through the sixth grade. All clubbers must sign in, then we gather in the
fellowship hall for our opening ceremony. Parents may pick up their children in
the fellowship hall following the closing ceremony at 8:00pm.
Why Awana?
The main purpose of Awana is to reach children with the gospel of Christ. The
gospel is presented during mission time, and the children are given a chance to
respond. Once children have accepted Jesus as their Savior, Awana strives to
train them to serve Christ. Memorization is a key tool needed to be able to win
the battle over sin. Awana uses motivational elements, such as individual awards
earned by the clubbers, to keep the clubbers interested and excited about
learning Bible verses.
Clubs and Programs
Cubbies The Cubbies club is for 3 and 4 year olds.
Since these children are so young and cannot read by themselves, parental
involvement is a must. Cubbies are encouraged to memorize one verse per week.
If they need more of a challenge, there are special awards, "Apple Tree Stickers,"
given for reviewing verses already memorized.
Sparks The Sparks club is designed for children in kindergarten through second grade. It emphasizes Bible memorization, as well as Bible-centered activities. Sparks are allowed to move at their own pace, allowing them to memorize several verses in one week, if they desire.
Truth & Training T&T The T&T club is designed for third through fifth graders. T&T clubbers work on "Discoveries" or "Challenges" that are made of seven sections. Each section includes verses to memorize or Bible-centered activities to do.
